A Interview with a Wiccian
|
Q: Please describe or put a definition to the term New Age? A: Basically, there are a lot of definitions and you probably could not get all the members that are representative of the New Age to agree upon one definition. I feel, and what it has come to mean to me is that, we are experiencing an age in which knowledge has increased, and the knowledge will continue to increase to the point where man will be working from an enlightened point of view. A lot of us feel that the reason for this is the approach of the astrological Age of Aquarius. Let me explain every two thousand years the earths astrological age changes, and mankind moves into another house. Aquarius is ruled by planets that make it very common with expansiveness and with new ideas. We are now leaving the Piscian Age, which is most notable as the age of false messiahs. Q: If you were asked to put a dictionary definition on the New Age what would it be? A: It is representative of the enlightenment of man that will occur in the Aquarius Age. Q: How old is the New Age movement? A: There has been groups working for thousands of years trying to manipulate subtle energies, but I don't feel comfortable saying that. The New Age is the Aquarian Age that we are now entering. Astrologically, if you were working in the Piscian Age you did not represent the Aquarian age. Q: How wide spread is the New Age movement? A: "WOW," everyday I think were learning and were seeing that its really just becoming a part of society. Its just becoming a part of the collective consciousness now, you can hardly watch through and evening of TV without being beckoned to call a psychic hotline network to have your palm read something of that nature. I think anything that embraces metaphysics has certainly had its roots somewhere, and we can harmonize with it somewhere in the New Age. I think its becoming very wide spread, I feel that it won't be very long before everyone is involved with the New Age. Q: Is the New Age more a religion, then a philosophy? A: I don't feel, it could be described as any one religious preference, as much as a philosophical point of view. Q: Where did the philosophies of the New Age originate? A: Edgar Casey, was a very famous profit who did a lot of work in the early 1900's. Lots of his ideas are what we go back and draw upon in the New Age today. Also, at the same time, Gorgeff was working over in Russia, he then came over to this country in the 1950's. They had groups that worked together toward this enlightenment, but it wasn't very publicly published. I think with the advent of Joe Gardener doing a lot of publishing on Wicca. There began to be a trend, and then it really came into the mass consciousness, I feel safe to say in the 1960's. There were rock groups singing about the Age of Aquarius, entering it into mass consciousness in that period. Q: The Rock and Roll song, Age of Aquarius, is all part of the New Age? A: Absolutely, its part of an idea, it's how we view the earth changes that were spoken about by Edgar Casey in the 1930's. Of course, it also refers to a time that Nostradomus spoke of, the time that Jesus Christ spoke of, and many other prophets. Q: Is there a fine line between the New Age and philosophy. As Carl Marks, Mao, and others who all spoke of the righteous ways, and were all walking fine lines of religion, philosophy, and cult. Does the New Age fit in with these ideas somewhere? A: It may to some seem like the area we belong, but we are just extracting that which is good from religious systems, philosophical systems, and even science, and from very philosophical science systems. We are finding out that there really is not a line, everything eventual comes together, there is only one truth and that is what were after. Q: I have heard a lot of reference to Wicca (modern day witchcraft) being the main part of the New Age. Is Wicca part of the New Age, and if not, how does the New Age differ from Wicca? A: Wicca represents only one part of the New Age. In fact, what has become very common today is that people are looking for their roots. They are looking to connect with religion; theyre looking to connect with their own spirituality. Wicca follows a very old tradition. Actually to go by documents and writings, it is very hard to say what they are following really does have its roots in antiquity. It's more symbolic and synonymous with witchcraft. They also manipulate energy, but I don't feel it is interconnected with the New Age. The New Age represents a new body of information, a new body of knowledge, which mankind is only now coming to understand and use. Q: From the prospective of New Age, what world views does the culture hold? A: Well, right now we view the world in terms of reincarnation and karma, We believe that mankind is progressed together as one unit, and there are certain things that we are only now on the threshold of. We are only just starting to understand this information that is now being made available, because of the fact that we have lived so many lives. Society has moved together through the different ages as a group, and that is the way we base our worldview. Q: One of the New Age's beliefs is in reincarnation? A: Yes! It's fair to say that it is a very high number of those involved that are in fact, followers of Western reincarnation. Which is different from the eastern reincarnation in the respect that we are not transmigrationists. Which could be defined, as, If you mess up really badly, you will have to come back as an animal. Q: What are some of the other belief systems in the New Age? A: Well, we could talk all night on this question, but I can say that reincarnation plays a heavy part. We believe that we are here to do certain specific tasks, and that the ascended masters are only just beginning to speak to the hearts and minds of man. They are helping us lay a path to make this a better world, and that is the real heart of the New Age. Q: How do New Age belief systems apply to the world around you? A: We believe that the world is a very changing place. We believe that we're going to see incredible changes not just in the consciousness of human kind, (which of course, we believe is now being elevated) but we think we will see some real changes in the landmasses and the layout of the world. We will see the known economic system come to a complete crash. Our social economic system is just going to be beyond anything that we can imagine right now. We are very hopeful, when we go back and listen and understand a lot of the dooms day profits, but it is not a pessimistic out look, and its a very hopeful philosophy. It may sound as though we are fatalists, but we're not. We are very optimistic, because we believe that this new knowledge that is coming into being, will put the world into a totally different mode then we have known in the past. We believe that you cannot change anything, you really don't change anything, you may think you do. At this stage in human awareness everything happens to us for a reason, but we really don't facilitate or cause things to change. Now, in the New Age when we do become aware, we will know, and learn to master ourselves, then we will be able to cause change. When everyone works together in harmony, the world will be a very different place. Q: What are some of the Rituals in the New Age culture? As in spiritual, religious, etc.? A: I don't really know if I can answer that, there certainly is a lot of meditation. We believe that part of what we are doing is, working on and knowing ones self. Q: Does the Tarot cards and astrology play a big part in the New Age society? A: We believe that we sense subtle energy, and in sensing these energies they direct us to the path that we need to be on. Also, taking in to consideration our individual karma. The subtle energies are electricity, light, heat, and underneath all of them are other currents of energy for instance, the energy that moves an object in telekinesis. No one really understands where this energy comes from, and there is some difference of opinion on whether or not it can be directed and how you would go about directing it. I think that enough paranormal research has been done we should allow for the phenomenon of telekinesis. These subtle energies are causing these things to happen. We also use the energies from minerals and stones; these vibrate at certain frequencies, which emanates their energy; to prove this point we do use quartz crystals in our watches. Once we learn to feel these energies and maybe direct them, we can use them for positive means. We believe that everything is linked, everything is in correlation, and all energy forms are interconnected. The planets themselves emit energy waves. The best way to describe this is to say that, electromagnetic waves effect the lives of every living on this planet we call home. Q: Is the New Age broken up into individuals, or is there a total consciousness among its members? A: In reality, we believe each person represents their own consciousness, but as a group we can see our collective consciousness coming together to work, and make some real changes in the world. There are certain groups that are calling themselves The Light Workers, and part of what their doing is ushering in the New Age and we feel it is part of our karmic responsibility to help. Q: There are different groups in the New Age movement, and what group are you from? A: I'm not a part of any organized group, nor would I become a part of an organized group. Basically, what I believe is that there are ascended masters, Jesus Christ being one of them; that lived on this earth, amassed a tremendous amount of knowledge, and now are on another realm or plain of existence if you will, and making that knowledge available to us to facilitate the enlightenment of mankind. Q: All cultures and societies have their own beliefs on the origin of man. From a New Age point of view, what is your theory on human evolution? A: The energy has always been and always will be. The energy that created the earth and us occupies a higher realm and we will not understand it, until we ourselves evolve there. I do realize that I am just a very small piece in a very large puzzle. I do believe that our evolution will see complete brotherhood, and a world where physic powers are a normal part of everyday life. Q: The scientific community has what they consider to be a scientific paradigm, in which anything that is physically supported by scientific explanation is accepted into the paradigm. If something does not fit then it is totally unacceptable. Does the New Age have a similar system of paradigms? A: I would have to say yes, but that would be so broad. When you begin to talk about reincarnation; then you just start to hit so many dark areas in the idea of paradigms, because it seems that no two groups or philosophies can embrace the same ideas, but we do believe there is one over all paradigms. Q: How do you see society, and how does society see you? A: Right now, I want to say that we feel a great deal of sympathy and sorrow, to the way that society is progressing at this point. The changes are coming and were going to help facilitate those changes. We feel a great deal of brotherhood to our fellow man; we want to help facilitate changes that will make everyone's life better. The most interesting things have happened in the last few years. There is a great amount of genuine curiosity; we're viewed not so much as freaks, but as people who think a little differently. I don't feel anything negative; the very worst that you get is that youre somewhat flaky. I think that most people can see that we just envision a different world and everybody deep inside wants to see a different world. A world in which we all can participate, a world that we helped create. There is a definite interest by society for a new future. Q: How does the New Age fit into western culture? A: Part of what we feel and what we see happening all around us is religion has just left a great gap, its left people wanting, its left people lacking. We're looking for ways and means to fulfill our spirits. In fact, we're looking for a union with the source. Unfortunately, so much was filtered down and boiled out of current western religious systems that we are not able to reach that level of harmony. Q: What does the New Age populations think of western culture? A: Certainly there are a lot of good things that have developed, but I also think that for the most part there became a great gap in philosophy and science. I feel like it really led us astray for a good number of years, there is no quality of life in western culture. What's life all about, we as westerners define success by status, what do I have, what can I gain. I am successful by my dollar value, and this is what has left people so lacking, in fact, it is why we are so suitable to an awakening. Western culture involves itself with financial gain, this seems to be the point that is reached for; how much can I get, we've totally come away from the idea of what can I achieve and what can I give. Q: How do New Age people fit into western society ? A: For the most part very well, it is encouraging for me to see that many scientific people are becoming involved in the New Age. They are starting to realize that society is left wanting and t rying to fill this gap, and asking the question "where do we go from here"? This is pretty painful, but to a large degree we are still laughed at for some of our beliefs. There are a lot of people who simply are not optimistic enough to see a time when we will actually live as one human family. For the most part, I think that we are just excepted as kind of a nice oddity, "Gee you know Bernie, she's real flaky, bu t she's a O.K. person". So its safe to say that main stream society sees us as a little out there. But I do think that they are definitely drawn to the light that New Age people are producing, its very rare that we meet with a lot of negativism. Q: What are the visions for the New Age future? A: I'm in agreement with Gordon Michael Scallion, we are going to see some tremendous earth changes, a lot of societies that we know will disappear. Most of the eastern coast of the United States will not survive these devastating earth changes. The future will not be anything that we can closely identify with; there will be a series of islands out along the coast. From what I understand, the middle of this country will be flooded out. Every country in the world will go through these changes. As far as the political and economic systems of the world, they will under go changes that we really can't understand at this time. Can you imagine living in a world were the dollar has no value, and the only things that will retain their value is gemstones, silver, and gold, things of that nature. These will all still be exchangeable. What will happen to people as far as their spirit goes it will be elevated. We are going to understand we will finally be enlightened.
